Tension Can Be Good

I have been asked how in the world I was able to get the fabric in the hoop when my hand was still pretty bad.  Our "genius" son realized that this one uses tension.  No fiddly little screws!  It is a vintage one that I've picked up somewhere.  Do they even make them anymore?  It is also pretty small, which helped.  I keep using it, because it is still easier.

Delving into my stash of Depression Era scraps is going to work well for this project.  The hard part will be deciding which ones!  That is the kind of problem that I like to have.

I've already started on the February piece for the New Embroidery with Vintage Patterns 2012 Quilty Stitch Along.  The split stitch did not impress me before, but I think it looks quite nice for the basket.
I tried couching to give the blue Forget-Me-Nots more body, but I do not think it was worth it.

We have two stitch alongs a month going on over at the New  Embroidery with Vintage Patterns Group on Flickr.  Come on over and take a look!

  4. This is lovely! So good that you were able to find a way to hoop your wip
without much discomfort. The split stitch does look perfect on the basket.
(ps= i have the feeling that the metal hoop sold on colonialpatterns.com for painting
has this same system, they only have it in 10" though)

  5. Hi there, your embroidery is gorgeous. It's nice to see that people like yourself are still practising this lovely art. I haven't done it in about 30 years. Thanks for sharing. I have recently found your blog and am now following you, and will visit often. Please stop by my blog and perhaps you would like to follow me also. Have a wonderful day. Hugs, Chris
